Dodecahedrons #2
December probably isn’t the month to try and make a game as fast as possible. Things are still happening though.Since last post I’ve added a track, a track generator, a thing to turn the track into 3D objects in a track, and a track bending thingy. The track is actually completely straight, it just looks bendy because of a weird space warp thingamabob I wrote to bend the 3D points that the world is comprised of based on how far away things are. I want it to be smoother, but the maths is too hard right now.The idea behind the game keeps changing, so I’d expect the dodecahedrons may be replaced with something else, maybe maybe.

neilsanders: Is it going to be like a sumo wrestle knock the balls out of the circle sort of a deal? IF SO I’M EXCITED, and if not I’M STILL EXCITED

Good idea for a sequel! But nope, human-like opponent AI is a bitch - I’ll be aiming for a fast paced, hold-on-for-as-long-as-you-can-and-don’t-screw-up kind of thing. It’ll have randomly generated levels for maximum "dammit that wasn’t fair! I’ll get it this time you bastard…".

I have a new game in the works that I have three goals for. One, make it fast. Two, use the new DX3 library I made for doing pseudo-3D graphics with nice lines in Flash (will post more about this later). Three, get it done.Basic physics, basic graphics, basic control scheme, basic game state control, basic menu system, basic resource loading, basic camera behaviour and a rough cut of the game’s music all done so far, really going to try to get this pounded out. Go time.

Nowhere I guess, it was never finished, you can play the crummy old original one here. Unfortunately one of the Flash player releases in the last few years broke the music looping, you can see why I wanted to make a second better one.

shoofle: I feel like suddenly I have a perverse desire to make a game like this that doesn’t use any 3d graphics capabilities - do it all by hand in software.

You picked it, nothing but scaled and rotated sprites in that one. If you’re interested I once wrote an article on different ways of faking 3D for games on my website. That kind of stuff is pretty fun.

askraytheenderman: Ive played a game like this! its called accelerator! but no missiles….

Just checked that one out, it’s cool, that’s kind of how I wanted this one to be but less true 3D, very similar gameplay and concept. Dunno if they knew about mine, I suddenly feel old though, from what I can tell my original Missile Game predates it by like seven years.

I have so many unfinished games #3
This one was made to be the sequel of a really old game I once made called 'The Missile Game 3D'. I got this level working but was beaten by a total lack of time to work on games during my uni course, and then never felt the need to get back to it. Plus it’s using ActionScript 2 and there’s no way I’m going back to that.

I have so many unfinished games #2
This one was made for a class. The idea was that the clock keeps ticking and determines whether you had to walk or fly (stepper or flapper), so you’re always under pressure to complete each section before you transform again. Making the puzzles was more difficult to get right than I thought, so I didn’t continue this after the class was done. Level design is often such a huge task and it has to go relatively smoothly and unforced for a game to be worth building all the way through.

This one was made with a friend. That jumping guy’s name is Lollergaggle. We had all these characters planned out and everything. At least one character was going to be called “Uncle Fitzfn-n-n”. I was going to be awesome. Someone else should finish it for us.
